Why The Nook Had To Be Built

Let’s face it—working from home with kids sounds great… until reality kicks in. You’re on a Zoom call with a toddler clinging to your leg, trying to write an email with one hand while opening applesauce with the other. Your brain is in business mode, but your environment? Total chaos.

After 25 years of building businesses with babies on my hip and snack cups in every bag I owned, I knew something had to change—not just for me, but for every mom trying to juggle work, motherhood, and sanity.
That’s why I created The Nook.
The Space I Always Wished Existed
I’ve spent years searching for a space where I could bring my kids and they’d actually have fun long enough for me to get something done.
Co-working spaces? Sure, they exist. But they’re not made for moms. Yes, some let you bring your kids… but only if they stay next to you, quietly, at your desk. That works for maybe five minutes on a really good day.
Coffee shops? The anxiety is real. You’re constantly shushing your kids, worried they’re being too loud for the laptop-and-latte crowd. Restaurants with play areas (shout out to McDonald’s)? Sure, the kids can play but there’s no place to plug in your laptop, you can’t bring your own food, and let’s be honest: it’s not exactly an inspiring place to grow a business.
And none of those places offer support. No one’s organizing workshops on entrepreneurship or parenting. No one’s helping moms brainstorm the next business idea or troubleshoot burnout. There’s no community. No collaboration. No one saying, “Let’s build it together.”
That’s the place I always wished existed. So… I built it.
What Is The Nook?
The Nook is a co-working and connection space created for moms and anyone raising tiny humans while trying to get things done.
Whether you’re a full-time mompreneur, a remote worker, a homeschooling parent, or someone who just wants to finish a thought without being interrupted, The Nook is your space.
Here’s what you’ll find inside:
Co-working desks with Wi-Fi, outlets, and space to focus
The Kid Zone with open-visibility, play-based fun where kids can explore and make friends
The Mom Lounge with comfy seating, and grown-up conversation
Snacks & sips with kid-friendly and mom-approved vending options
Community programming like guest speakers, business workshops, parenting support, and meetups
It’s the first space of its kind in Cowlitz County and we’re just getting started.
Where Inspiration Happens Naturally
One of the most powerful things about The Nook isn’t just the space it’s the people in it.
Maybe you’re a mom with a business idea in your head but no clue where to start. At The Nook, you’re suddenly in the same room as moms who have started and are growing, selling, and thriving. That kind of energy is contagious.
You get to listen in on real conversations. You get to ask questions. You get to be surrounded by women who are walking the walk and realize: you can do it too.
It’s community-fueled inspiration. And it’s one of the most beautiful things happening inside these walls.
Why It Matters
I saw the need firsthand. When my daughter’s teacher posted on Facebook that she had to return to work and couldn’t figure out how to stay home with her kids, I felt that heartbreak deep in my bones. She wasn’t alone and I knew it was time to create something different.
The Nook gives moms (and caregivers) a place to belong. To exhale. To connect. To build. It's not about doing more, it’s about doing it together.
